1) Exterior Frames
Being the first line of defense to outside weather, the exterior frames of your windows are prone to collecting dirt, smoke and mold. These little pieces of Mother Nature can cause damage, discoloration or rotting to your finishes. It’s a good idea to use a mild soap and water solution with a cloth or soft brush to wipe these surfaces clean. Make sure you rinse the area quickly before the soap dries!
The best way to clean your screens is by gently wiping them down with a soap and water solution. Leave the screens out to dry naturally. Most screens can also be easily vacuumed using a soft brush attachment.
Be EXTRA careful when removing insect screens, as they are extremely delicate. Wipe them down with a soap and water solution, let them soak briefly, then rinse using a low-pressure hose.
3) Window Glass
Keep your window glass sparkly clean by wiping it down with glass cleaner on a regular basis. Tip: ammonia or alcohol-based cleaners can cause streaking! Wipe your windows in a circular motion and work from the top down to ensure there is no residue left on your windows.
It’s a good idea to keep any mechanics in your window lubricated regularly. This ensures they last longer and turn smoothly. Using products like automotive grease can help do this.
Before you lubricate any hardware on your windows, wipe them down with water to ensure they are clean. This includes locks, hinges, handles and arms.
Sometimes, despite your best efforts at self-maintenance, windows just need to be replaced.
